Peter J. Smyth
M.Sc.Ed., M.S.W., Ph.D., ( C ) OACCPP.


Peter practices relational psychotherapy and has over thirty years of experience in the fields of mental health, consultation, and education. He has provided a wide variety of counselling and treatment services (including group work and family violence) to numerous clinical and community based programs. He has been in private practice since 1987 and specializes in individual and marital / couples therapy. Peter's diversity includes psychoeducational consultation, employee counselling and coaching, assessment, and education in communication and conflict resolution for individuals and groups. He is on the faculty of Insights Learning and Development (applied Jungian psychology),and is a regular consultant to various ministries of the Ontario
Government as well as a number of corporations. Peter has taught at three universities, including York, where he has been a faculty member for the past twenty years. He also sits on the faculty of the Centre for Excellence in Critical Care Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital / University of Toronto and is an active participant on the Critical Care Performance Improvement Team, (Ministry of Health). He holds numerous professional memberships and accreditations (AOS, CRCH, ACEP) and is a certified clinical member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists, and Pyschotherapists.


Gerard Kimmons
M.D., Child Psychiatry Consultant


Trained in both Pediatrics and Psychiatry, Dr. Kimmons is a child Psychiatrist available to provide consulting for the other clinicians at the Counselling Institute. Dr. Kimmons' particular expertise and interest is the areas of child (and teens) misbehaviour as well as adult relationship difficulties. His ability to diagnose or rule out psychiatric disorders is a valuable complement to the other mental health services offered at the Counselling Institute. If clients or their therapist believe that an opinion from Dr. Kimmons would be beneficial, a request from one's family doctor is required.


Gisela Neitzert
B.S.W., M.S.W., R.S.W

Trained as a Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of experience in the Mental Health and Social Services field, Gisela provides both couple and individual counselling. Her skills, evaluating problem areas, enhancing self esteem and realizing their own goals and implementing effective lasting solutions. Her clinical focus with individuals includes trauma work (empowering sexual abuse survivors as well as dealing with the long-term effects of post traumatic stress) as well as dealing with depression, anxiety, grief and loss and coping with life transitions such as separation and divorce. In her work with couples, Gisela uses an emotionally focused approach for healing distressed relationships and restoring intimacy.



Rivka Beer
M.Ed., ( C ) OACCPP.


Rivka is a Child Psychotherapist with over eighteen years of experience assisting children and their families. With her warm and engaging style, Rivka provides treatment for a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, chlid abuse, child rearing difficulties, parental separation of divorce, blended families and bereavement. Depending upon the age and personality of the child, and the nature of the presenting problems, Rivka utilizes a number of techniques including psychodynamic therapy, play therapy, art therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, sandtray therapy, and parent counselling. Rivka is a certified clinical member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrist and Psychotherapists (OACCPP), and is a member of the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy (CACPT). She has assessment and treatment experience in settings such as community-based mental health clinics, school, private practice, and residential treatment centres. When a child is engaged in individual therapy or play therapy, Rivka provides ongoing feedback support and counselling to parents as a vital part of the therapeutic process.


Nancy Violo
BPHE, M.Ed., OACCPP


Nancy has a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto as well as Reiki I & II training. Her Holistic approach helps clients to become aware of the barriers to their well-being, enhance their ability to make choices that support lasting change. She works with individuals, couples and families with a variety of issues including stress, anxiety, depression, anger management, self-esteem, and grief. Nancy has a particular interest in working with couples, strengthening their ability to communicate and resolve conflict.
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy and is a natural, holistic and complimentary healing method. Reiki sessions are optional and offered on their own or as a compliment to the therapeutic process. Nancy is a member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapist.



Shahriar Moshiri
Ph.D., Registered Psychologist


Trained as a professional clinical psychologist, Dr. Moshiri has over 20,000 hours of clinical experience in the field of counselling and psychotherapy with individuals, couples, adolescents, families and groups. He is the former Founder and Director of the Moshiri Counselling and Psychological Services Centre. Shahriar has taught at two universities as a tenured, full-time professor and was Head of the Department of Applied Psychology at Tehran Medical School, Azad University.
He is a specialist in Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) and holds professional clinical memberships in the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists and the Canadian Psychological Association. Dr. Moshiri is a Registered Psychologist whose areas of specialty and interests
are in counselling and psycotherapy with individuals, couples families and youths.
